Other Ways to Give

Other ways to Give

There are many other ways to contribute financial and in-kind resources to Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Here are a few ideas.

IDEA #1: Corporate Matching Gifts

Many businesses match charitable gifts based on volunteer hours/time or will match a cash donations from employees, spouses, or retired employees. For more information, contact your human resources director or Vice President of Development Adriane Deithorn at 412-363-6100, ext. 219, or e-mail adeithorn@bbbspgh.org.

IDEA #2: Car Donation

How much will you get for that old clunker anyway? Consider donating it to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We arrange the pickup, tax forms, and all the necessary paperwork. It’s easy!  The sale proceeds go directly to help kids in Greater Pittsburgh. Contact Adriane Deithorn at 412-363-6100, ext. 219, or e-mail adeithorn@bbbspgh.org.

IDEA #3: Deferred Gifts

A deferred gift will allow a donor to make a planned gift over a period of years or as part of estate plans. By creating a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity, individuals can establish a lasting legacy that will make positive differences in the lives of at-risk youth throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. A bequest through a provision in a will is another way to perpetuate lasting ties to the agency and to ensure its future well-being. Contact Vice President of Development Adriane Deithorn at 412-363-6100, ext.219, or e-mail adeithorn@bbbspgh.org.

IDEA #4: Ticket Donations

Thanks to the donations of tickets, our Bigs and Littles are able to attend events they don’t often have the chance to experience. We gladly accept donations of tickets to pro and college sporting events, theatrical performances, concerts, ballet, musicals, movies, museum exhibitions, etc. Most in-kind donations like these also are tax-deductible.

To donate tickets or learn more, please contact Special Services Coordinator Cheryl Jones at 412-363-6100, ext. 226, or e-mail cjones@bbbspgh.org.

IDEA #5: Got Stuff?

IDEA #6: Stocks/Securities

No matter what tax bracket you are in, making a gift of appreciated stock makes sense. Tax benefits for the donor include:

(1) Avoiding capital gains tax upon transfer to BBBS, and

(2) Receiving an income tax charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock on the date of the gift. There may even be an opportunity to carry over the charitable income tax deduction over several years.

How to wire a stock gift? With the help of your financial advisor, determine what appreciated stock or bond you would like to give as a gift (make sure you have owned the asset for at least one year). Send your broker written instructions regarding the stock name and number of shares you would like to give to BBBS. Please provide your broker with the following information:
