The College of General Studies (CGS) at the University of Pittsburgh is looking for Big Brothers and Big Sisters who are interested in applying for the Tom R. Slone Scholarship. The scholarship is available to Bigs who enroll for a recognized program of study in the CGS and want to start or finish a four-year undergraduate degree.

Background: Established by CGS alumnus Tom R. Slone, this scholarship is available to mentors in the Big Brothers Big Sisters youth mentoring organization.
Award: The number and value of the awards may vary annually. Award decisions are based on a combination of an individual’s financial need and merit.

How to Apply: If you are a currently enrolled student at Pitt, proceed to item 2.
1) New students seeking entrance to the University must apply for admission with all transcripts through Brett Cione in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. Brett must know of your CGS admission application in order to review for scholarship.
2) Provide a short essay of your experiences as a Big Brother or Sister and how completing your degree with the aid of this scholarship will help you accomplish the personal goals you have set for yourself. The essay does not have to be long—one page, single-spaced would be sufficient.
3) Apply for financial aid. The first step in the financial aid process is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply online. The second step is to fill out Pitt’s Financial Aid Application Supplement (FAAS). You can download a copy of the FAAS at http://www.pitt.edu/~oafa/pdf/0708UngrdFAAS.pdf.
Once the above items are received and reviewed, you will be notified of scholarship awarding.
