Because of the recent availability of female mentors, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is looking for girls, ages 5 to 12, who would benefit by having a Big Sister mentor. Little Sister candidates are being recruited from all communities – urban, suburban and rural – in Allegheny, Washington and Greene Counties, regardless of race, religion or family economic situation.
The primary qualification for children enrolled in the BBBS program is the need for additional guidance and friendship provided by a caring adult mentor. As a result, a majority of the children enrolled in the BBBS program come from single-parent households, or they are in other situations where they lack consistent contact and support from caring adults.
Please encourage parents and guardians of girls to enroll their daughters in the BBBS program. BBBS works closely with parents and guardians to determine if the BBBS program is right for their children. Then, we also work in conjunction with parents to match every child with the right “Big.” Next, each volunteer is screened, trained and supervised, and professionals support each match to help ensure that the relationship will be safe and rewarding for everyone involved.
